TieraZon hints

Last update: 8/22/99
This page is definitely not completed yet, but here's a few starters for Tierazon (and due to many similarities, Flarium also). Tierazon is trickier to describe than Fractint, but I'll give it a try:

To "zoom" (make the image larger) use your mouse to draw a rectangle in the image. Then click on the button that shows a magnifying glass on a blue background (6th button from the top on the left). Most of the really interesting images can be found in the boundaries (or edges) between one color and another. So zoom in on one of those boundaries 3 or 4 times.

Next, you'll want to change the "filters". I like "Wolf", but which filter to use is mostly experimentation. Some filters change the image a lot, some change only the colors. If you choose a filter with "FD" in it, you can also change the "FD-Options".

You can change the colors some more by selecting different settings from the color menus. This can change the whole image by highlighting (or emphasizing) different parts of the image.

Then you can get really choosy and change the Fractal parameters. Click on the "fractal parameters" button (9th button from the top on the left). You can change the colors by changing the "bay factor" Bay factor 1 seems to change more than bay factor 2. If you increase the bay factor, the stripes of color will be smaller, so you'll get a smoother change from one color to the next.

You can make the round curvy things fatter or skinnier by increasing or decreasing the "stalks and bubbles" number. You can get more iterations (more complexity) by changing the M-set max number. The first 3 options (magnif, Xmid and Ymid) are just the position of the image (where you have zoomed to).

Yet more changes can be made to the colors. Click the button just above the fractal parameters button (it has an odd "C" on it). Then change the position of the slides, and the numbers in the boxes at top left. When you change the numbers in the boxes, you have to press the "enter" key on your keyboard. then it will show the new colors. Bigger number in those boxes make more stripes (of the color you are changing) in the colors.

Click here to download some sample images for Tierazon. To use them, the .ZAR file and the .BMP file must be in the same directory. The colors on my samples will be funky because they are from an earlier version with different coloring algorithms. The file name is zar.zip. Try making the "stalks and bubbles" much smaller on "lucent". It turns into a whole different image.

Have fun!
